1. Repeating alarm canceled on activity close?

Is the following behavior documented somewhere and I just missed it?

When I set a repeating alarm in response to a button click, the alarm
triggers the expected event only if the activity is in the
foreground. If I close or pause the activity, the alarm seems to
disappear.

When I set the same repeating alarm in the onPause method, the alarm
triggers as expected even after the activity is destroyed/paused.

Is it just me, or does this seem like it's not behaving the way it
should?

2. MyLocationOverlay - change provider criteria?

After testing MyLocationOverlay a little I am under the impression it
is following the strategy of selecting the "best" location provider
following the Maps app strategy. This means, If GPS is enabled by the
user, the preferred location provider will be GPS, selected in
preference to wireless network-based location.
I would like to change this around without burdening the user with
having to manually turn off the GPS-based location provider, but could
not find API calls to MyLocationOverlay to change the provider
criteria; any ideas?
