1. Verizon won't sell Droids for retail price :(

I just went to the downtown Minneapolis Verizon store, and they
refused to sell me either of the Droid models (Motorola and HTC)
because my Verizon phone line was not eligible for an 'upgrade'! They
refused to sell it to me for the retail price, and cited some policy
saying that due to limited supply they are only selling the phones
with a contract renewal or upgrade.

I called up the customer service line after exited the store, and
talked to a friendly rep who was surprised by my story, but he did
some checking and I guess it turns out this is the policy for the
'Greater Plains' area or something like that.... I guess I can order
it online and it could be here by Tuesday... but I'm pretty
disappointed I can't be testing out my applications on it right now!

It almost seems like fraud to advertise phones being available for the
retail price ( even the display things in the store list the retail
price and there is no indication they are not really available)..

Anyways, I'm glad Android has come to Verizon... but man, I sure do
hate every dealing with Verizon I've ever had.....

2. Droid Development

Does anybody have ideas on how I could do development on a Droid phone
w/out a Contract? I've purchased a Droid at full price and just want
to use it for dev/testing over Wifi but Verizon insists that it must
be activated. Any workarounds ?
