Converting FREE app to PAID app

 Hi,

app.
I was looking out for some alternative ways to make this happen.
I have an app with about 10K users. Users have their data stored
inside the application.
Lets call the existing FREE version com.myapp

I would like to sell myapp for $10.

How do I go about it?

If I create a new application, it does not accept com.myapp since it
says I already have an app on the store with the same name. Create a
new app: com.paidmyapp does not help because how do the existing 10K
users get their data from FREE version (myapp) to PAID version
(paidmyapp).

Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.

Funny, I just asked a very similar question last night but haven't
gotten any responses yet. I *think* it might have something to do with
the "shared user ID" in the project's manifest, but I'm not sure yet.

have the free app to export the settigns to your server or to user file or
somewhere
have the paid one import it

...

While that's a simple way of doing it, there has to be a more elegant
way of handling it.

+1 for that, and if you share the backup/restore functionality code
between the 2 apps you'll have 1 more feature to the paid app - backup
(e.g. to SD card) and restore

I agree with Raymond. Performing an Import / Export is a workaround
that some users might not want to go though, specially if they have
sensitive data inside the application.

Any idea why didnt google have conversion from FREE to PAID?

Also, why cant we create a new app with same app ID? This would solve
the problem since
1) FREE app and PAID app cannot coexist on the device.
2) PAID app would access FREE app's app data hence no import / export.

if your concern is sensitive data so don't export to your server, export to
a local file

We plan on using a content provider (published by the FREE app) to
transfer data between packages - so the import happens automatically
the first time the PAID app is launched.

You could add a DataProvider to the free app and the paid app could
use that to do an import.

I'll be stunned if that works. Why nest ListViews? If your issue is
that you have multiple sources of data, stitch them together at the
adapter level.

2. Framework : DevicePolicyManagerService

Hi,

I have added few more functionalities in evicePolicyManagerService.javafile.

These functions are sending intents to custom services which require
permissions.

I m looking out for the manifest file where I could add <uses-permission>
which will be used in DevicePolicyManagerService.

Any pointers as to where would I find it.

Thanks,
