Is there a discussion group focused on development of applications for
first responders ? Is there interest in creating one ? I bilieve
the first responder community would benefit greatly from such and
effort.

For the US: Check out APCO.
 http://www.apco911.org/
Communications systems of public safety and service agencies are
typically built out as Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems using voice
trunking in 12.5 and 25kHz wide channels in the T band (450 to
512MHz), 700MHz and 800MHz spectrum. These channels are licensed to
public safety and service agencies which typically own the base
station equipment, backhauls and base station real estate and towers
in some cases. This means when commercial carriers are down, these
systems (shall) remain operational (and inter-operational), based on
operational assumptions, redundancy and fallback levels that go beyond
commercial carrier practices. These systems also provide in-building
coverage on defined levels, including tunnels that may or may not be
covered by commercial carriers.

I was thinking of d-block auction if it ever happens.

Assume Nextel for push to talk, not sure if Verizon and Motorola will
incorporate this feature with Ironman.

Tranches of that freed-up spectrum went to public safety, no
auctioning there, which would be a zero sum game.

1. Bluetooth headset service is always running - Is it normal?

On my phone, a dev phone, the bluetooth headset service is always
running even though bluetooth connectivity is disable in the Settings
app. Is this normal?

The ear speaker is not emitting any sound for maybe two weeks now,
even if the on-call sound level is at max (5), so I'm checking a few
things before I try to send back the phone for repair or exchange.

thanks

2. Locale Problem

Hi All,

I've been working on localization. I think I have localization
working correctly throughout my application. In one case though,
something is amiss. Normally, after a web view creation, a toast
message appears providing a message to the user and works great with
the locale. Then if the device orientation changes from portrait to
landscape, or landscape to portrait, the web view is recreated
correctly, but the toast message comes back in English instead of the
localized language. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Wes
