So I'm still working to get the paradigm down.

Activities are related to screens and everything you want a user to
see needs to be part of an activity. But what's with the Intent? Are
all intents tied to an activity?

I thought I had read that Intents were more like events. If that's
the case cool...but I'm really struggling on where Intents fit into
the whole concept.

Intents and Activities

 Here's my 2 sec tutorial:

Android Component 1:
Activity - the screen.
View - the widgets inside the screen.

Android Component 2:
Service - logic running in background.

Android Component 3:
Content Provider - data storage.

Android Component 4:
Broadcast Receiver - code waiting to be run, triggered by matching intent.

Intent - the trigger to start the above components.

Yea, Intents are kind of events. You can use them to call or
communicate with other Activities or Applications.

And you can add extra data (Intent.putExtra(...)) to send data to
other activities

Thanks. That helps put things in perspective. I need intents to
start the components and within the components there can be various
other work done etc.

1. ListView + scrolling + CHOICE_MODE_MULTIPLE = trouble?

Hi Chris,

All lists looks like this by default (see the Contacts list for
instance, or the settings list, or the ApiDemos' lists, etc.)

2. AutoCompleteTextView without keyboard input

Hello,

This is what i am doing, I have a AutoCompleteTextView that filters
the contact names while you type them similar to what the sms app does
right now. In my app I have a virtual keyboard and I need the same
functionality to happen when I type with my VK.

For example, When I open the keyboard I can put in "K" in this
texfield and I will see a list with names starting with "K", but if I
press my "k" button I do not get anything.

What I am doing is, concatenating strings into this textField, so when
my "k" button is pressed I add a k to the string that is already
there, my question is how can I have the TextView automatically start
filtering when I press my button, I have looked and do not see
anything that stands out in the API.

Thanks
