Service not able to download network data while in standby

 Hi!

I have a service polling data at regular time intervals and this works
great except when the phone goes into standby. Then the service never
runs the timer thread and it never receives data. How does the SMS/
Email application do this since I get those notifications while in
standby?

When I did a Windows Mobile application this was just the same, and I
had to resort to a third party timer (SDF) to solve this....

 Try the alarm/alert manager. When in sms and device on stand by it
does not alert you unless your device is compatiable with gmail sms or
another email service.

 As the others have said, use the AlarmManager.
A couple of other things which may be of use to you if your process
takes a long time

Use the PowerManager to get and aquire a WakeLock - this will stop the
phone from going to sleep whilst you're doing stuff.
Use the WifiManager to get and aquire a WifiLock - this will keep the
wireless connected whilst you're doing stuff.

Don't forget to release the WakeLock and WifiLock when you're done.

Are you sure this is correct? It shouldn't be needed.

You don't need the #ifdef, the changes you are making will also work on
older
kernel versions.

Also, you don't need the cast.

plan to handle this. > O...
Yes, that should be the way to do this.

What really needs to happen is this driver get merged into mainline and
these
changes will be done for you.

If I get bored, I'll just dump the driver into the staging tree, but it
should
be done by the original developers, and not rely on me to do it...

thanks,

2. Activity Half Refresh

I've an oddd problem... I've an activity with a button. On click event
I call a pick image, like this:

        Uri target =
android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
        Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, target);
        startActivityForResult(intent, RESULT_PICKUP_IMAGE);

on onActivityResult I call an other activity. When come back from that
last activity, my main activity is refreshed only for half.

Doing a few tests the problem is solved if I call the second activity
out of onActivityResult, from a button from main activity, but I need
to call the activity from into onActivityResult .

any idea ?
