1. How to properly pass MotionEvent to a worker thread

Hello,

my app forwards MotionEvents, reported by
GestureDetector.OnGestureListener, to a worker thread.
Right now i am doing it by calling MotionEvent.obtain, pass the
obtained copy to the worker thread, handle it and recycle it at the
worker thread.
Is it required to obtain and recycle a MotionEvent if it is passed to
another thread? Or could it safely be skiped?
If i am making things overly complicated, could you please explain me
at which conditions MotionEvent.obtain is usually called?

Thanks,
Mike.

2. Buying Commercial Android Phone for Development

Hello All,
My main concern in getting a 'commercial' android phone (as opposed to
Dev Phone 1) for development is that the carrier/manufacturer may stop
releasing firmware updates for that phone after a year or so. As a
result of this, I would no longer be able to develop applications for
the latest releases of android and be forced to buy a new phone.

Does anyone know if phone manufactures are obliged to support the
release of newer versions of android firmware for each android handset
they sell? Are they required to push new android releases to their
handsets for a minimum period?

E.g. When will HTC stop releasing firmware updates for the G1?

Regards,
Don
