Request for potential research areas.

 There were a lot of ideas discussed in the android-discuss group. In
particular looks for posts dated around Feb - Apr 2008 (ADC1 timeline).

Some ideas:

To send out emergency signals during disasters, and when networks are down.
To sense emergency situations and send out distress calls.
To locate and track kids.
To go green. Share rides, locate public transports etc.,
To save time. Find nearest restaurants and reserve tables etc.,
Location based contextual information. Get relevant stuff as you move around
your location.
Social Networking - discover exciting new networks in your location.
Travel - Use camera, sensor, google earth etc., and find out real geo
location infos.

Given Android capabilites like bluetooth, gps, accelerometer etc., you have
to think a bit and see how these capabilites can be applied in alleviating
real life problems.

As i said, search the android-discuss group for more ideas. Good luck.

take care,
Muthu Ramadoss.

1. How apply a theme in a fragment?

Hi,

I'm creating a new layout for an app using fragments. And in a screen,
I need to apply a specific theme just for one fragment, but I can't do
that. To make sure that I did the right thing, I applied the same
theme on an old activity and it works. The app already has a theme
defined, but on this screen I need a different theme because the
background is white and with current theme the line below of the
EditText don't appears.

Below how is my manifest:
    <activity
      android:name="activity1"
      android:theme="@style/ThemeHoloLight"
      android:label="@string/labelActivity">
    </activity>

And the style file is:
    <style name="ThemeHoloLight" parent="@android:style/
Theme.Holo.Light">
    </style>

About the fragment, below is how I'm starting it:

                Activity1 activity1 = new Activity1();

                FragmentTransaction ft =
getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
                ft.replace(R.id.fragment1, activity1);

ft.setTransition(FragmentTransaction.TRANSIT_FRAGMENT_FADE);
                ft.addToBackStack("fragment1");
                ft.commit();

Below is how is my layout:
                <FrameLayout
                        android:id="@+id/fragment1"
                        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
                        android:layout_height="fill_parent"
                        android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" />

Thanks for any help!

2. What is the difference between native and other ? (dumpsys meminfo)

Hi!
I use dumpsys meminfo to monitor the memory usage.
In "priv dirty", "other" is much higher than "native".
What is the difference between them, and "other" is also related with
"malloc()"?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
