Source code. And you can't have it until somebody *else *ships a phone.

 Making mobile phones - I suppose it means manufacturing? If your
friend is an "extended bench" contractor, he most likely does not have
the resources to develop an Android-based phone as a product. I am
talking about design, engineering, marketing, full-blown quality
system and so on. In any case, check out the Android Internals groups;
there's a whole bunch of people who built prototypes on ARM boards (or
similar, I'm a software guy). That should give you an impression what
it takes. If neither of you are technical people - perhaps hook up
with an university to see if you can recruit talent and take it from
there.

 In case anyone is interested in Android PMP or phone, OEM or with our
own brand.
Wilber: I am really interested to talk to you, still waiting your e-
mail reply though.......

We are in the process of building one and would be interested to form
collaborations in any way possible.
More information is available from our web site.

We are hoping to release it before the other major brands, i.e. before
end of the year.
Engineering samples for the Android PMP maybe available for purchase
in about 2 months. And final production model will follow soon after.

Feel free to contact us if you are interested.

Cheers
Eric

 I was just looking at your web site and I am liking what I am seeing. Are you
working on creating an android phone? If you are any idea on when I would be
able to get one in the US and what wireless networks will it be able to use? I
am also interested in the PMPs that you are showing. You had mentioned selling
them with android, do you know when I would be able to get one in the US?

 For the Android phone, we are not 100% sure at the moment if we will
produce it. We can only decide after we made the samples for the
Android PMP, because both will share the same chip and many other
details.

For the Android PMP, you can buy one from us directly when we mass
produce it. Unless you are interested to buy the limited engineering
samples at US$1000....We don't have any US distributor/reseller at the
moment.

I should be putting more information up when the engineering samples
are available.
You can contact us directly, watch our site or post in our forum, so
that I can notify you when it is available.

Cheers
Eric

 US$1000 is not expensive if you consider that the typical price for
the development boards cost more or less the same........

Our samples can be used as development boards via serial.......I doubt
u will find similar devices that will give you a serial port except
development boards.

Other Threads

1. bug in sample demoAPI - App/Notification/Notifying Service Controller

There's a bug in sample demoAPI - App/Notification/Notifying Service
Controller.

Once that service starts, if u stop the service before the 4 iterations are
completed:
for (int i = 0; i < 4; ++i) {
                    showNotification(R.drawable.stat_happy,

R.string.status_bar_notifications_happy_message);
                    Thread.sleep(5 * 1000);
                    showNotification(R.drawable.stat_neutral,
                            R.string.status_bar_notifications_ok_message);
                    Thread.sleep(5 * 1000);
                    showNotification(R.drawable.stat_sad,
                            R.string.status_bar_notifications_sad_message);
                    Thread.sleep(5 * 1000);
                }

The NotificationManager clears the status icon briefly, but the thread keeps
running until it reaches the end of the 4 iterations.
So you still see the thread runs to complete (changing status bar icons
every 5 seconds), while the service is already stopped.
I think this behavior is not the intended/expected behavior. And thus, a
bug :)

To fix it, make a local boolean variable, and assign the service status, and
have the run() method check the variable.
boolean running = true;

in run():

while (running) {
 // showNotification(...)
}

in onDestroy() {
  running = false;
}

thanks

2. ActivityGroup

Hi,

Anybody know of an example of ActivityGroup in use? I searched the
website but only found other questions from people with no real answer.
What I'm trying to do is display something on screen that comes from
multiple activities, and activity group is what I can think of, but I'm
open to all ideas.

Thanks,
Ahmad
