 Making mobile phones - I suppose it means manufacturing? If your
friend is an "extended bench" contractor, he most likely does not have
the resources to develop an Android-based phone as a product. I am
talking about design, engineering, marketing, full-blown quality
system and so on. In any case, check out the Android Internals groups;
there's a whole bunch of people who built prototypes on ARM boards (or
similar, I'm a software guy). That should give you an impression what
it takes. If neither of you are technical people - perhaps hook up
with an university to see if you can recruit talent and take it from

 In case anyone is interested in Android PMP or phone, OEM or with our
own brand.
Wilber: I am really interested to talk to you, still waiting your e-
mail reply though.......

We are in the process of building one and would be interested to form
collaborations in any way possible.
More information is available from our web site.

We are hoping to release it before the other major brands, i.e. before
end of the year.
Engineering samples for the Android PMP maybe available for purchase
in about 2 months. And final production model will follow soon after.

Feel free to contact us if you are interested.

 I was just looking at your web site and I am liking what I am seeing. Are you
working on creating an android phone? If you are any idea on when I would be
able to get one in the US and what wireless networks will it be able to use? I
am also interested in the PMPs that you are showing. You had mentioned selling
them with android, do you know when I would be able to get one in the US?

 For the Android phone, we are not 100% sure at the moment if we will
produce it. We can only decide after we made the samples for the
Android PMP, because both will share the same chip and many other

For the Android PMP, you can buy one from us directly when we mass
produce it. Unless you are interested to buy the limited engineering
samples at US$1000....We don't have any US distributor/reseller at the

I should be putting more information up when the engineering samples
are available.
You can contact us directly, watch our site or post in our forum, so
that I can notify you when it is available.

 US$1000 is not expensive if you consider that the typical price for
the development boards cost more or less the same........

Our samples can be used as development boards via serial.......I doubt
u will find similar devices that will give you a serial port except
development boards.

Other Threads

1. Android OpenGl Documentation?

Whatever happened to that? I'm planning to write a game for the
Android platform using openGl, and i'm unable to find any
documentation/tutorials for it. Yes, I have looked through the Android
docs (several times and) and even external sources. Some docs that i
found covered some Android openGL library that didn't even exist (I
believe it was opengl.context)

If anyone can point me to a useful source of information regarding the
openGL library for Android, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you :)

2. Assistance with understanding LunarLander code

I have been working through the lunarlander example application, in
attempt to understand the source code. I have run into a couple of
problems, and would really appreciate if someone could space a couple
of minutes to assist in may understanding.

The onCreate method contains the following:

   protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {

        // turn off the window's title bar

        // tell system to use the layout defined in our XML file

        // get handles to the LunarView from XML, and its LunarThread
        mLunarView = (LunarView) findViewById(;
        mLunarThread = mLunarView.getThread();

        // give the LunarView a handle to the TextView used for
        mLunarView.setTextView((TextView) findViewById(;

        if (savedInstanceState == null) {
            // we were just launched: set up a new game
            Log.w(this.getClass().getName(), "SIS is null");
        } else {
            // we are being restored: resume a previous game
            Log.w(this.getClass().getName(), "SIS is nonnull");

I can see that we are performing the following:
        Turn off the title bar in the window
        Set the activity content to the lunar_layour layout file
        gets a reference to the 'lunar' layout
        gets a reference to the thread member of the LunarView class
        give the LunarView a reference to the textview for game
        we then set the state of the lunar thread to STATE_READY,
which also
outputs a bunch of status messages

The problem is that after executution of setState, the code seems to
end. I can see no sections of code that actually creates the
or LunarThread objects, which are required to start the game proper.
Obviously I am missing something here, I was wondering if anyone
assist! Thanks lots!
