Paid Apps in Canada

by Joe Bowser » Sat, 14 Mar 2009 02:12:10 GMT

 That's exactly it, I think.

Since none of the Canadian Providers have adopted the Android so far,
there is no Canadian Paid Android Market. If/when there is a device
that supports the Canadian Infrastructure (mostly CDMA based, with
Rogers being the only GSM option), there will be apps. It's directly
related to the announcements we get about the various Android Markets
opening up.

I'm going to get a T-Mobie Prepaid this weekend for the sole purpose
of seeing what's happening in the US market, since it's too easy to
not care about my own backyard.

1. Transparency on Views behaving differently in 1.5

Hi!

I have a lot of Views where I have set a background image on the top
LinearLayout and then I have nested a new linear layout below with a
background that is semi-transparent. This works great in 1.1, but in
1.5 the transparency is just disregarded and this breaks my app as the
text on top is now unreadable.

Is this a bug or a feature? Is there a better way of doing this? Very
grateful for any tips!

Code example:

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/
android"
        android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/
field"
        android:id="@+id/root"
        >
        <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/
android"
                android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
                android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/bg"
                android:background="#aa000000">

manifest file

     <intent-filter>
     <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"></action>
     <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"></
category>
         <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW" />
             <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /
             <category
