How do email notifications work for POP3 and IMAP accounts on the G1 phone?

If I set up the supplied email client on the G1 phone for a POP3 or
IMAP account, can I configure it to periodically check the mail server
for new mail (in the background)? If so, will the system display some
sort of notification message telling me that I have new mail?

I ask this because I don't have a G1 phone yet (I'm currently using
the emulator for app development), and I'm checking to see if I can
dump my Moto-Q phone (WM5 OS) and effectively use a G1 phone for my
daily activities. Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

ppcinfo

2. Sorting MediaStore results

I'm a java dev new to android and looking to sort songs by artist and
album.

I'd like to have a list of artists and when you click an artist it
expands to show that artist's albums and if you click an album it
expands to show the songs on that album.

I've tried looking at the source for the native Music app but was
unable to locate this snippet of code.

Thanks for any help.
