2. RadioButton.setButtonDrawable(Drawable) disables ListView's OnLongClickListener

After 2 days of banging our heads on why our ListView's
OnLongClickListener stopped working we finally learned that updating
the Drawable on a RadioButton (that was not part of the ListView or
it's internal views) was disabling somehow the OnLongClickListener for
the ListView.

The layout of our Activity looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android=" http://www.***.com/
android"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
        android:orientation="vertical" android:id="@+id/layout">

        <RadioGroup android:id="@+id/browse_radiogroup"
                android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
                android:orientation="horizontal">

                <!-- Why doing setButtonDrawable() on a RadioButton
disables the OnLongClickListener
                      of the ListView after the RadioGroup? Bug? -->
                <com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton
                        android:id="@+id/radio_applications"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
checkedDrawable="@drawable/
application_checked"
                        uncheckedDrawable="@drawable/application"
android:layout_weight="1" />
                <com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton
                        android:id="@+id/radio_documents"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
checkedDrawable="@drawable/
document_checked"
                        uncheckedDrawable="@drawable/document"
android:layout_weight="1" />
                <com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton
                        android:id="@+id/radio_pics"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
checkedDrawable="@drawable/
picture_checked"
                        uncheckedDrawable="@drawable/picture"
android:layout_weight="1" />
                <com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton
                        android:id="@+id/radio_videos"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
checkedDrawable="@drawable/
video_checked"
                        uncheckedDrawable="@drawable/video"
android:layout_weight="1" />
                <com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton
                        android:id="@+id/radio_ringtones"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
checkedDrawable="@drawable/
ringtone_checked"
                        uncheckedDrawable="@drawable/ringtone"
android:layout_weight="1" />
                <com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton
                        android:id="@+id/radio_audio"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
                        checkedDrawable="@drawable/audio_checked"
uncheckedDrawable="@drawable/audio" />
        </RadioGroup>

        <ListView android:id="@+id/ListViewPeerBrowseFiles"
                android:layout_weight="1"
                android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
                android:layout_marginTop="4px"
                android:scrollingCache="true" />

</LinearLayout>

A little more context on this mystery... (android 2.2, bug was
replicated on a Motorola Droid and the HTC Nexus One)

com.frostwire.android.views.BrowseFilesButton extends RadioButton, so
that we can have a different custom drawable on each radio button in
the RadioGroup. Instead of having the little circles for radio
buttons, we have a representative icon for each option that swaps
drawables depending on the state of the button (selected/unselected).
This worked perfectly on it's own, the problem was how it affected a
ListView under it (inside a linear layout)

When any of the RadioButton invokes setDrawable(Drawable) before
super.onDraw() the ListView below will only take sincle clicks and it
will stop responding to long click events.

We remove the call to setDrawable(Drawable d) on the BrowseFilesButton
onDraw() override (our custom RadioButtons) and the ListView
OnLongClickListener starts working again, the ListView... which has
nothing to do with the RadioButtons.

Another hint that this may be a bug, is that when we call
setDrawable(int id) instead of setDrawable(Drawable d) the
OnLongClickListener of the ListView starts working again.

We can only think that there's something funky about how RadioButtons
manage the kind of "focus" needed for a long press when it's using a
reference to a cached Drawable object.

We solved the problem with a workaround but still the mystery remains,
we don't know if it's a bug on the Android API, or maybe there's
something we can't find in the documentation about how RadioButtons
may be hijacking the Long Click event from other OnLongClickListener
in the activity.

When we debugged and examined the ListView and it's internal views
everything looked fine, they all had their reference to the proper
OnLongClickListener, they had their setLongClickable to true however
the de{*filter*} would never stop at our breakpoints on the long click
listener.

Hope someone finds out what the cause of this may have been.

Cheers, Team FrostWire
