assume that your linux kernel boots up ok, And you box only turns to
block screen after launch up the Android. If I'm right, the black screen
could be caused by the wrong FB driver. Please rebuild your kernel to
use VESA fb and see if it works. Otherwise disable app_process and get
into the shell to debug.

 I YiSun:
I applied four patches only, did not use the intelfb method you
supplied, so it should be VESA. Am I right? Also, How to disable the
app_process to get into shell? I dit not find the correspondinng
options for virtualbox. Thanks!

No, if you did not rebuild the kernel, then you are using i915.

Change the init.rc. Just disable following lines:
service zygote /system/bin/app_process -Xzygote /system/bin --zygote
--start-system-server
socket zygote stream 666
onrestart write /sys/android_power/request_state wake
onrestart write /sys/power/state on

Do more people have the problem that they don't see any battery icon
on the status bar? Does it supposed to be there with the battery patch?

1. Controlling my service from main activity

Hi all. I've created my first service, and it's all gone fine, except
when the main activity is stopped.

What I want is for a user action (button press etc) to start the
service, which it does. Then I want the user, some time later, to
press another button to stop the service. Which it does. But if the
main activity loses focus (i.e. I go to the home screen) when I return
to the activity it has no knowledge of the service anymore - even
though the service is still running.

When the activity resumes, how do I find out a) if the service is
running, and if so b) re-bind to it, so that I can then stop it and
collect the data I'm after.

Thanks.

2. Custom Component ImageView Override Help

Hi, I've made a little test component that overrides ImageView, called
myImageView, and prints some text and an arrayList of Doubles over
whatever image is specified in the related xml.

However, right now, the text and Doubles that are drawn over the image
are defined within the myImageView class. Is there a way to pass the
data from the main onCreate function to the myImageView class before
the layout is drawn?

I'm new to OO programming, but based on my understanding of this:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/custom-components.html
it's possible because ImageView is just like any other class. This
leaves me with two initial guesses:
1. I could generate my test data in the main onCreate, and store it
in the array's xml file, and then read that xml file with
myImageView,

OR 2. I could extend view instead of ImageView, but because of my new-
ness, then I would lose the ability to use it in an xml layout sense -
and that's what I really want.

Thanks for any tips, or references! I can post code if needed, but
this is more of an approach question.
