Or use adb shell, then ls /sdcard :)

1. How to determine if a home screen shortcut exists?

Is there a way to determine whether a particular home screen shortcut
exists? Or is there a way to silence the Toast messages that appear
when a home screen shortcut is installed and uninstalled?

My application installs a shortcut on the home screen at device
startup time under certain conditions and I don't want duplicate
shortcuts to appear. I also don't want Toast messages appearing saying
"Shortcut created" or "Shortcut already exists" every single time the
device boots. I've found an undocumented Intent Extra called
EXTRA_SHORTCUT_DUPLICATE which will prevent duplicate shortcuts from
being installed but the Launcher still displays the "Shortcut already
exists" Toast message. I'd rather not rely on this undocumented
Intent Extra if there is a supported technique for this.

Thanks,

2. Understanding how Activities work

I'm trying to wrap my head around activities and how they begin and end in
Android. I've read what the Developer Guide has to say regarding activities
and I'm still a little fuzzy on how I should appropriately handle their
navigation in my application.

As an example, say I have a main activity that starts a secondary activity.
Once the secondary activity has completed it's purpose, I want to close it
and return to the main activity. I recall having read that the activity
stack was just that, a stack of activities that are pushed and popped. So I
assumed that calling finish on the secondary activity would return me to my
existing main activity. Calling finish on the secondary activity didn't
actually do anything, visibly at least.

Is there further reading that anyone can recommend to me?
