re you sure that:> ADP 1.1 covers the paid apps access
Is this statement official (from Google)? Because the paid apps are copy
protected. If the weren`t, the could be easily copied to another device.

This thread is not for the delay of ADP 1.1 . It is for the other
statements.

I think that there is a way to use ADP for both fully unlocked device and
paid/copy protected apps supported device. You can read the topic about the
RC 33 in the above links.

I think that google can make two versions of the firmware. The first can be
fully unlocked, but will not support copy protected apps. The second can be
used by developer which want partially unlocked phone, but with protected
apps support. When you need the 2 second - you install the 2nd firmware.
When you need the first - you can install it. I think that there is a
solution for both ways. When you migrate to the 1st - wipe the secure data
(paid apps) and etc. Or the second firmware can install a virtual partition
where the protected apps will be stored. The partition can be encrypted with
the key which only the OS knows. So when you migrate to the first firmware
(fully unlocked) you will not have the secret key to decrypt the virtual
partition and the protected apps will be protected :) Thats the way I see
it. There must be another way and if there is a will, there is a way.

P.S. I don`t think that I as a developer should by one more phone, just to
support feature which can be implemented and is logical to be.

I believe that, the protection is turned on. Otherwise you can easily copy
them. I`ve asked too in the forums, but JBQ did not answer that ADP 1.1 will
support paid apps. I believe that the protection scheme is the same as the
free copy protected apps. If the paid app is not in protected mode, it can
be copied.
This is for free apps. Paid one have already integrated protection and it
will be more effort to make another one on the top of the first and the
effect will be the same.

But do you agree if it possible to have two version of the firmware?
I think that with 2 version or some other solution it will be fair for all.

I know that it takes time. I just want to know if it will be available and
than to start waiting. But for know, there is no official info, and thats
bugging us all. If someone from google says to us that this will be fixed in
the next version, I will be happy and will wait and help with what I can.

They are working on APD 1.1 . We know a little about this update. It is like
RC 33, but for ADP , but there are still questions and JBQ did not confirm
the feature "protected/paid apps". It`s easy someone from google to say:
"There will be such feature for ADP1" and this discussion is over,
but until then...

A even simpler method would be to have each dev sign their APKs with a

license key (think google maps style), which, when purchased would

store the key on the user's account. When run (or installed) the APK

can call to the server and see if the current user actually has that

key in their user account, else, it will not allow installation. Same

concept, but does not even need encryption.

This method is good when the app needs constant internet connection like the
Maps, but for other apps like games and etc, this is not a solution, because
they will be "pinging" the server to check every time for the keys. But
anyway there are more solutions suitable for better security and ADP 1. Just
have to be implemented.

P.S. There is one feature which affects all users and it is the problem that
you can install apps only in the main memory which is not enough ->

am trying, but it is hard. I was originally posting this topic in another
google group. JBQ told me it will be better to post it here - I did it and
that`s why there are multiple topics...

but this is about me and is offtopic, so please let we stay on the topic!

MHO ... the best way for a dev to protect his app is to have it register
itself to the Buyers cell-phone number .... then copies would not work on
other phones and the original buyer could backup the app in case anything
happens ....

his is a great idea. I was thinking of using the device Id but this way the
user can always install his apps on any device that has his sim. If he removes
the sim then the app stops working.

These are good points. I was going to make a similar post but you've
pretty much covered what I had in mind. I also thought there should
have been a simple encryption scheme involved with "copy-protected"
apps. All I can come up with is that implementing a minimal copy
protection scheme was/is not a priority for Google and ADP users/
developers are unfortunate victims of poor decision-making based on an
incomplete, but nonetheless advertised feature.

ven if you have to buy a new sim .... you phone number will be on the new
sim .. and the old one has been disabled by TMO ... which means a loss or
stolen sim (once canceled) should not allow the phone to even boot up ???
