Do devs write Android software for love or for money?

I imagine myself living my life on a warm island doing nothing but
having fun with my wife and kid(s) ;)
I did start writing for Android for fun though, and like almost
everybody else hope I'll make some bucks.

Cheers

If you ever get to do that you'll realize it gets old pretty fast.

I love it. But it is not android in particular. I just love writing software.
Cannot imagine myself doing anything else in my life. I would say that I like
writing software for mobil devices more than for PC's.

I'm entirely in your camp!
'Love it' is a big word. But i like it! :)
And i, too, hope that the monetary side'll get a little (lot) better.

As the subject says: do we do this for the love of building something
new and exciting ... or do we do it for the hope of money?!

In my case, I'd say different on different days. When I got started
with Android, it was for love of developing on a new platform and
reaching out to a big audience.

But when its the end of a long day and I'm still stuck solving a
tricky problem, I think its the hope of eventually getting paid that
keeps me going!!

Anyway over to you - please be honest!

I've got enough money for shelter and food, so I guess it must be love ....
or boredom.

2. subscription based business model on Android Marketplace

Dear Community,

We are planning to release an application on the Android Marketplace
that generates revenue through subscription.

By default the app would be downloadable for free from the Android
marketplace and would run as a full version for a limited amount of
time. After the free period passes the user will need to subscribe
either via Google Checkout or PayPal to be able to use the app
further.

My question is: Is there a legal problem with this solution from the
Android Marketplace's point of view? With such a model the App is not
sold so google can't take the 30% fee, that is a loss for them.

I've seen some apps on the market with similar business model (eg.
Parallel Kingdoms is free but you need to buy food to be able to
advance in the game), but I still don't know whether this solution is
100% legit.

I would really appreciate your help in this subject,

Gergely
